Hello to anyone out there who decides to read my blog. This is my first post so I decided to give you a little bit of background info on myself, in case the person reading this doesn't already know who I am, and tell you why I have chosen to create a blog.
My name is Emma. I am a musician living in Northern Utah. I got my degree in piano last May. At about the same time I was closing on a five bedroom, two bathroom house. It was an ideal location and size. The upstairs has a nice living room, two bedrooms, the kitchen and a bathroom. Downstairs has three bedrooms, the other bathroom, a family room, a laundry room and a pantry. I decided to buy the house because I could rent out the downstairs and they could have a place to live and I could teach piano upstairs.
Over the summer I was offered an assistantship to do my Master's degree at the same university that I got my undergrad at. In exchange for teaching two classes, they would pay my tuition. I couldn't turn it down, so now I am a single master's degree student making a house payment. It definitely a challenge on my finances and my creativity. I am finding that keeping up and paying for a house is a lot of money. People warned me. I must say, though that I do not regret having bought the house. It has been really nice to have my very own place.
Part of my blog will be dedicated to talking about my adventures teaching and being a student. The other part of my blog will be dedicated to working through some questions that have resulted from recent events in my life. I am chosing not to go into details in this blog, though perhaps I will in a later one. In any case, this event in my life has caused me to seriously contemplate the role of religion in my life and to really question beliefs that I have taken as truth for the majority of my life.
Now if you know me and are freaking out at this point, don't do it. I am not going to drop all religion. I just want to make sure that what I believe really is the truth. If it is, then I will gladly accept it. If not, then I will go and find what is the truth. It is possible that there is no such thing as religion--that it is man-constructed. If it is then I want to know it. If it is not, then I also want to know that. I don't want to dedicate my life to something that isn't true.
Anyway. That is where I am at in my life. I hope that you enjoy what I am writing. If you have any comments on what I write or if you believe that my logic is faulty then I am more than happy to listen and respond. This is part of the reason that I blogging.
